An EasyFind alternative that reads scans and sorts files

EasyFind, from DEVONtechnologies, is a free search tool that needs no index: it finds files and folders by name, content, tags, or comments, with Boolean operators, wildcards, and regular expressions. Lisorto keeps an index on your Mac of what it reads, so it finds words in scans and screenshots too, and it also sorts and names files.

How they work

EasyFind, by DEVONtechnologies, searches your disk live each time, so there is no index to build or keep up to date, and it handles precise queries with Boolean operators and regular expressions.

Lisorto reads files on your Mac as it sorts them and keeps what it reads in an index on your Mac. That is what lets it find words in scans and screenshots, and it keeps the files themselves in order.

Pick EasyFind if…

  • you want a free search with regular expressions and Boolean operators;
  • you don’t want an index on your Mac;
  • you only need to find files, not sort them.

Pick Lisorto if…

  • you want to find words inside scans and screenshots;
  • you want Downloads and the Desktop sorted and named too;
  • you want to search from the menu bar with ⇧⌘Space in any app.

Switching from EasyFind, or using both

  • Use both: EasyFind for regular expressions and one-off searches, Lisorto for sorting and everyday search.
  • Lisorto’s Spaces are ordinary folders, so EasyFind finds files in them as usual.

What Lisorto never does

  • It never deletes a file. Duplicates are set aside, not removed; Free up space moves things to the Trash only when you pick them.
  • It never overwrites a file. If a name is taken, that file stays where it is.
  • It doesn’t upload your files. Cloud AI is optional, off by default, and sends only a short excerpt of an unclear document.

FAQ

Questions

Does Lisorto need an index?

Yes. It keeps a search index on your Mac, built from what it reads, including the text in scans and screenshots. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you turn Cloud AI on.

Is Lisorto free like EasyFind?

Lisorto Free tidies up 100 files a month by hand and finds what it filed. Lisorto Pro is $29 a year or once from $29, with a 7-day trial and no card.

Can Lisorto search with regular expressions?

No. Lisorto’s search is for words you remember from inside a file. For regular expressions and Boolean queries, EasyFind is the better tool.

Does EasyFind organize files?

Its site describes finding files and previewing results, not moving them. Lisorto proposes a Space for every file and moves it once you approve.
