How they work
DEVONthink, by DEVONtechnologies, is a place to collect and work with documents: databases, groups, tags, links between documents, and smart rules. Its AI suggests categories, sees connections, and works with a model you choose.
Lisorto works on the folders you already have. It reads each file on your Mac, proposes where it belongs and what to call it, and moves it only after you approve. The result is plain folders that every app can use.
Pick DEVONthink if…
- you research and write from large collections of documents;
- you want links between documents and AI that works across your library;
- you want the same library on your iPhone and iPad;
- you work as a team on a shared server.
Pick Lisorto if…
- you want Downloads and the Desktop tidy without moving files into a database;
- you want files to stay in ordinary folders that every app sees;
- you want a lighter app with a free tier;
- you want scans named and searchable without setting anything up.
Switching from DEVONthink, or using both
- Lisorto’s Spaces are ordinary folders, so anything it sorted can still go into DEVONthink when you want.
- Keep DEVONthink for research libraries, and let Lisorto handle everyday files like bills, tickets, and screenshots.
What Lisorto never does
- It never deletes a file. Duplicates are set aside, not removed; Free up space moves things to the Trash only when you pick them.
- It never overwrites a file. If a name is taken, that file stays where it is.
- It doesn’t upload your files. Cloud AI is optional, off by default, and sends only a short excerpt of an unclear document.
