How they work
Default Folder X, by St. Clair Software, adds menus, panels, and shortcuts to Open and Save dialogs and to the menu bar, so you reach the right folder quickly, reopen recent files, and tag or comment as you save.
Lisorto looks at what already piled up, reads each file on your Mac, proposes a Space and a clear name, and moves it once you approve. AutoPilot keeps doing it for new files.
Pick Default Folder X if…
- you save many files by hand and want to reach folders faster;
- you tag and comment files as you save them;
- you need it on older versions of macOS.
Pick Lisorto if…
- most of your mess arrives without a Save dialog: downloads, scans, screenshots;
- you want files sorted and named for you, with every move shown first;
- you want to find files by the words inside them.
Switching from Default Folder X, or using both
- They work well together: Default Folder X when you save a file, Lisorto for what arrives on its own.
- Both open their search with ⇧⌘Space by default; change it in Default Folder X, whose shortcuts are “completely configurable”.
What Lisorto never does
- It never deletes a file. Duplicates are set aside, not removed; Free up space moves things to the Trash only when you pick them.
- It never overwrites a file. If a name is taken, that file stays where it is.
- It doesn’t upload your files. Cloud AI is optional, off by default, and sends only a short excerpt of an unclear document.
