Bulk rename files on your Mac, with a preview

Find and replace text in file names, add a prefix or a suffix, number them, put the file date in front, or change the case. You see every new name first, then download the renamed copies as one ZIP.

Your files never leave this browser: the tool runs on your device, and nothing is uploaded.

How it works

  1. Drop the files, or click to choose them. They are listed in name order.
  2. Set the rules: find and replace, prefix and suffix, numbers before or after the name, the file date, and the case. The extension never changes.
  3. Check the new names in the list. Names that would clash get “(2)”, “(3)”.
  4. Download the renamed copies as one ZIP. Your original files stay as they are.
  5. On a Mac you can also rename in Finder: select the files, Control-click, and choose Rename.

FAQ

Questions

Does this rename the files on my disk?

No. A browser can’t rename files in place, so it gives you renamed copies in a ZIP. Your originals are untouched.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser on your device.

Can it number files like 001, 002?

Yes. Choose numbers before or after the name, where to start, and how many digits.

Can I use the date a photo was taken?

It uses the file’s modification date, which a browser can read. The date inside a photo (EXIF) isn’t read.
